About the Ministry

The mission of the Compassion Coalition is to mobilize churches to transform lives and communities in the name of Christ. We strive to walk alongside Knoxville-area churches who earnestly desire to slow down and respond to the cry of the suffering, the broken, and the abandoned within their congregations and out in the community. We believe that transformation begins to occur when churches prayerfully go out to serve existing ministries of compassion and justice already in the community, while also initiating and sustaining non-existing ministries both within and outside their membership.

Imagine living in a place where:

  • Christians from many denominations take seriously their mandate to extend the life and ministry of Jesus to their community
  • Christians understand that loving their neighbors is a necessary outcome of loving their God
  • Churches have become like family with each other and with the community
  • Churches consistently make sacrificial investments of time, people, and money (together) to serve their community.
  • The greater Knoxville community can be such a place.

Compassion Coaltion's dream is to see several hundred churches striving together to be "God with skin on" to people struggling to find hope in our community. If enough of us walk together, Christ's Kingdom will become as real in Knoxville as the air we breathe.

What's going on?

COMPASSION COALITION ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Anyone who has a heart to pray for our city is welcome to join us at 8 am this Wednesday, March 5th in the Prayer Room at Central Baptist Church of Bearden.  The church is located just 1 block west of the intersection of Northshore Drive & Kingston Pike at 6300 Deane Hill Dr Knoxville, TN 37919 (across from Krispy Kreme).

AVAILABLE RESOURCES:
As summer approaches, we are reminded of the many people in our area who will need to find relief from the heat.  With that in mind, a local family has approximately 19 or 20 window air conditioners in good working order that they would like to donate in memory of their son, who was in the a/c business.  If you would like to claim some of these units to give to needy families, please contact Jason Warden at 865-966-5224 or e-mail jason.warden@farragutchristianchurch.com.

LOCAL NEEDS:
Compassion Coalition’s Furniture Ministry has waiting lists of people that need beds (particularly twin & queen), couches, and kitchen tables/chairs.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution of furniture that is in good condition, please contact Charlotte Mack at 865-251-1591 x 3 or charlotte@compassioncoalition.org.

Due to a fire in a local apartment complex, multiple families need assistance to rebuild their lives.  El Puente, a non-profit organization that works specifically with the Hispanic community, has offered to coordinate assistance efforts.  If you are interested in adopting a family or assisting a Spanish-speaking church in providing care and follow-up on an ongoing basis, please contact Robert Hodge at (865) 591-8677 or elpuenteknoxville@mac.com.  One of the easiest ways to help is to donate funds or Wal-Mart/Target gift cards to El Puente so that they can be distributed by the Spanish-speaking churches that are coming alongside these families.

WAYS TO SUPPORT COMPASSION COALITION:
Compassion Coalition is still seeking a total of 1,000 donors who will commit to giving $100.00 per year to fund our ministry.  If you have not already donated, you may now do so safely and securely on-line through Paypal! Just visit http://www.compassioncoalition.org/donate.htm and click on the ‘Donate’ button.

Don’t forget to tune in to Joy 62’s “Drive at Five” on Community Transformation with Grant Standefer on AM 620 this Friday afternoon from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
